Using COCOMO To Find Out The Cost Of A Software Development Project

Sometimes you need to figure out roughly how much a software development project cost to produce.  This could then be a good indicator towards it value - but the importance of a projects cost and how much it contributes to a projects value is very difficult to estimate because so many factors can be at play.

The COnstructive COst MOdel (COCOMO) is an algorithmic Software Cost Estimation Model developed by Barry Boehm. The model uses a basic regression formula, with parameters that are derived from historical project data and current project characteristics.

For a woman who, according to her blog is qualified in Medicine (Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery from the University of Malaya and a Diploma in Reproductive Medicine from the John Hopkins University, U.S.A) you might wonder what expertise YB. Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen is drawing from when she talks of developing Fraser’s Hill.

So little does YB. Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen seem to know about conservation in her native land of Malaysia that she seems to think developing Fraser’s Hill could be a bright idea.  Firstly I’d love to explain to her that development is generally an opposing factor to conservation and that what Fraser’s Hill (and many other places in Malaysia) need is conservation.
