Google Wave

Google Wave

Finally more and more tech companies and developers are dropping support for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer web browser.  Latest to stab the knife in is Google’s Wave.  According to Google:

Google Wave runs in most browsers, with the notable exception of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE). Users of IE will have to download a plug-in, known as Chrome Frame to use the application.

Microsoft does not recommend installing this plug-in, claiming it compromises security.

The King Cobra caught in Alor Setar, Malaysia

The Star newspaper today reported on a King Cobra attack near Malaysia’s Northern city of Alor Setar.  Although the report did not identify the snake it is obvious from the photo that it is a King Cobra!  The King Cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) is the world’s longest venomous snake, with a length that can be as large as about 6 m (20 ft).

New Variation Of The Facebook “Immigration Scam”

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

You may of recently heard of a series of serious scams causing havoc with Facebook and other social networking site users.  The gist of it is that “hackers” can get into your friends or relatives Facebook accounts -  most likely by exploiting a weak password – then sending fake pleas for help and essentially money to people on the hacked accounts friend list.

Naturally with the average human being stupid, statistically lots of people will fall for this scam.  The obvious thing to do if you receive a message begging for help from a friend or relative is to confirm the authenticity of the situation.  There will even be tell tale give away signs if it is scam such as poor English if your buddy is supposed to be fluent or suspicious circumstances such as a request for an overly large amount of money or imply stories that don’t add up.

Beyonce - maybe too sexy for some people

Apparently PAS youth vice-chief Sabki Yusof said “We are not against entertainment as long as it’s within the framework of our culture and our religion” and “We are against Western sexy performances. We don’t think our people need that”.

The Billboard On The LDP For The Missing Dogs

The Billboard On The LDP For The Missing Dogs

A strange but true story appeared on the front page of Malaysia’s Star newspaper today instead of more news worthy headlines (no change there then).  Esther Chik – a lawyer in her 30′s was a victim of a burglary over two months ago and her two Shih Tzu dogs were stolen.  Not a big deal really.

Make peace not relocation

Make peace not relocation

Shocked to read today that the racist protesters who resorted to insulting their fellow countrymen’s religious beliefs by parading a severed cows head in Shah Alam may have got what they wanted.  Highlighted below is the shocking paragraph as reported today.

Do Arapima live here, feeding off villagers?

Do Arapima live here, feeding off villagers?

Arapaima are very large freshwater fish and can reach lengths of more than 2 m (6.6 ft), in some exceptional cases even more than 2.5 m (8.2 ft) and over 100 kg (220 lbs). The often cited maximum length of 4.5 m (14.8 ft) comes from a single second-hand-report from the first half of the nineteenth century, and is not confirmed. The maximum-cited weight for the species is 200 kg (440 lbs). The Arapaima is the subject of many fisherman tales also known as tall stories!

Didier Drogba Shouts At Referee

Didier Drogba Shouts At Referee

The Chelsea hero is not out of the dog house yet.  Chelsea are likely to appeal after being handed a €100,000 fine (£85,000) by Uefa and longer than expected bans for Didier Drogba and Jose Bosingwa for the fracas at the end of the club’s Champions League exit to Barcelona.

On a more positive note, Drogba has a new 3 year contact at Chelsea despite Roman Abramovich apparently hating his guts.

Maids in Malaysia? An old US poster...

Maids in Malaysia? An old US poster...

Today reports from the US capitol stated that Malaysia is back on the human trafficking blacklist. Again. To get a better idea of just how bad and humiliating this is for Malaysia, take a look at who else is on the list. Malaysia is right up there with the African nations of Chad, Eritrea, Niger, Mauritania, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Sudan and “developed” nations, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Other human trafficking buddies include Cuba, Fiji, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Papua New Guinea and Syria. No offense intended to all of these nations, but they are not the most peaceful and advanced nations in the world are they? Spare Saudi Arabia and Kuwait from that last comment – they are filthy rich nations with no excuse for being on the list and deserve an ear bashing of their own.

It’s ironic – Malaysia want’s to be on a list of top vacation destinations but it’s name is more firmly pasted in the human trafficking yearbook along with notorious regimes like North Korea and Myanmar! It makes you wonder how Malaysians feel about this position and more importantly what they want to do about it. As usual, local media here just reprints stories by the AFP and Reuters etc without actually doing any further journalism. No wonder blogs are so popular for discussing hot current affairs topics when the licensed public media is so cowardly under government restrictions to dare to discuss anything at all serious.
