As the title of this post suggests, Sysvconfig is a useful program for managing start up services (on boot) on Linux. Sysvconfig is useful for configuring init scripts -ie: the scripts that start services at boot (or not) where you can enable or disable services that autostart and more.

KDE: Use KLinkStatus (KDEWebDev) To Spider A Site To Check For Broken Links

KLinkStatus is a handy web spider program is part of the KDEWebDev suite of applications. KDELinkStatus can recursively follow and check links (both internal and external) in a web site.
Once the spidering is completed you can then export the results as an HTML report so that broken links can easily be spotted and then fixed.

Here is yet another really easy and quick tip for KDE. There are loads of keyboard shortcuts ready to use right away and to view / edit them all you have to do is go to System Settings under the K Menu and then go for the keyboard icon. The windo that appears will look like the one in the screen shot to the left.
KDE4 – Set Konqueror As Default File Manager Instead Of Dolphin

This is easy tip. In KDE4 the default file manager is Dolphin however if like many people you prefer Konqueror (which was the default in KDE 3.x) you can make Konqueror the default by doing the following:

Google Earth may be the the leader in the field of interactive mapping, especially with Satellite map data but there are some other alternatives. I’m currently testing out the free open source Marble application.
Marble currently comes in two flavours for Linux, one is a basic version for users who do not have the latest KDE 4 and the other has a few more features. The main difference between the two verisons is that the KDE 4 version has a few additional settings (see screenshot).
