Kolam Ampang (Ampang Dam) Fishing Trip, Malaysia

December 9th, 2009 | by admin |

Ampang Dam aka Kolan Ampang is a great little lake for fishing.  A few maps to show the Ampang dam’s location:

You can get to the lake by exiting the road near Kelab Dahrul Ehsan by a small stream, then there is a steep climb up into the hills through the Jungle.

There is a dodgy makeshift “kawasan rehat” once you near the lake.

    Hi Kavien,

Unlucky! The entrance is hard to find the first time. In between two houses there is a small stream and path… that’s what you are looking for. The path is too steep and has some large steps so you can’t cycle up there. You could carry your bike up but it will be hard work. Also once you re up there cycling won’t be a good idea because there is lots of wild life you could hit something. I’d recommend just walking!

I’m a little surprised your vantage point is quite a ways from the banks. Isn’t that where the fish are, i.e. the banks? Every time we head up to Tanjung Resang and we cross a bridge, I see pristine banks with endless overhanging trees, ideal spots to cast a lure of fly. Tangan gatal :)

But perhaps you’re fishing for bottom dwellers there?

By the way, admin, is it true that barramundi can be had in freshwater bodies in Malaysia?

    Cheers.

To me presently there is almost nothing more distinctive than fishing, when I have the opportunity.I appreciate the tranquility and quiet inside my passion, as other people do I am sure. Many thanks for your appealing reviews I take pleasure in reading through them so much. Thank you.

    Hi Octango,

Mostly Tilapia which must have been introduced to the lake. Any larger movement will be some kind of Snakehead (toman or haruan)…

Right now I think there are very few good size fish in the lake – the lakes really not very big! Probably have to wait a while and try again…
