This was a forced trip after being “ejected” from the Tamn Tasik Ampang Hilir lake by four policemen shouting “Hey Bro!  no fishing!“.

First point of interest – giant red ants on the trail up the hill.

    Hi Fonzie,

Yep those guys are annoying, as far as I know it is a public place and all of the fish are introduced, so they are not naturally there. Once in a while there are fishing days / competitions on Ampang Hilir lake, so I think the authorities only allow fishing then so that they can charge money for the pleasure and to ensure that there are plenty of fish. It stinks a bit because most anglers will practice catch and release – so the fish shouldn’t become depleated in the lake. It’s a badly managed lake anyway as it’s always suffered pollution problems. With more investment Amapang shoudl keep the lake 100% open to people all the time and it will encourage more visitors… It’s location is ideal and may suit people more than fishing in paid locations like the one in Sentul!

How to get to Tasik Kolam Ampang (Ampang lake dam)… head up Jalam kolam air lama which is the road opposite the Flamingo hotel, near Ampang point. You pass the McDonalds on your right. Go straight up the road all the way until you pass the Kelab Dahrul Ehsan (KDE) on your left. The road now slowly turns around to the left, keep your eyes on the right side of the road for a small gap between two houses – take a look and you will see a small stream – this is the correct path!

Park in a safe place and grab your stuff and then follow the path up the steep hill… First you will see a resting place – a kind of abandoned area used my trekkers to chill out. Next head up the hill more. There are two routes take the one on the left as it goes directly to the lake. The steeper one to the right takes you past the abandoned colonial buildings first (where all the snakes are!).

Anyone reading this please make sure you carry ALL of your litter back down with you and don’t leave any fishing line and crap around the lake. If you are scared of large animals in the jungle then most people preper to walk around the lake shouting as they think it scares of wild boar and Tigers!

    Dan
