Drupal Latest Members Module In Action

Drupal Latest Members Module In Action

I’ve just closed a few open issues and added bug fixes for Drupal’s latest members module. Now version 6 is stable I’m going to start planning a build for Drupal 7! Latest Members provides a block that shows all of the new members photos (aka user pictures). The block settings can be changed so the admin can choose how many user pictures get displayed.

Ubuntu: Change default Shell to Bash

January 13th, 2011

Bash is a POSIX shell with a number of extensions and was initially released on 7th June 1989!

I just had a strange experience with a 3rd party server running Ubuntu Linux 10.04.1 LTS using some weird featureless Shell. Normally you would expect to see Bash running by default in Ubuntu. I put up with it for a few sessions then realized it’s just too plain annoying…

You can use this PHP code with or without the Yii framework to generate a select box of years. It’s useful for date of birth etc and especially brilliant for sites with minimum age requirements. The code only outputs valid years of birth for over 18′s only.

Road trip from Murcia, Spain to Gibraltar

October 11th, 2010

Taming The Dodgy Renault Van

Taming The Dodgy Renault Van

The Route

Murcia → Granada → Malaga → Marbella → La Linea De La Conception

Straight line distance: 510KM approx (316 Miles)
More likely distance (inc detours and curvy roads): 600KM (370 Miles)

Murcia Airport

Probably the worst airport in the world. No currency exchange, no working ATMs, no transport. Seriously, how can an airport not even have a money changer and public transport? There are supposed to be buses but it seems there are one or two a day. There are taxis, but they will cost you more than your flight at £40 just to get into Murcia town which is a mere 40KM away! We opted for car hire – the only viable solution despite the constant queue of an entire plane load of people. All they had left apparently was a huge Renault (more of a van than a car really) for 190 Euros a day with a full tank of petrol! Not exactly cheap car hire! The stress levels decreased for a while once we managed to finally hire the car, but quickly rose back up again with trepidation – I’ve never driven on the wrong side of the road before!
